We have been given the incredible privilege to work with Bethany Home, an organization aiming to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families. Though the ministries they are involved with seem to be endless, the main program is a day school for special students of all ages. They also run several group homes and skills training programs, aiming to educate the handicapped individuals on how to function independently in society.
Though our team doesn’t necessarily have a set schedule, Mr. Jayasingh, the director, assigned us specific individuals, both students as well as workers, for us to minister to during our time here. I have been assigned two guys that I am hoping to connect with and get to know. My time with them is not yet done so I will be writing more later. Please be praying for my interactions with Arasu, a 27 years old guy with muscular dystrophy, and Chun Hai, a student with severe mental disabilities, who has been traumatized recently by a vehicle accident which happened in from of him.
My time here has really been an incredible learning experience. I wish that we had more time to spend here, as I know that God could teach me so much through these individuals. Everything about them is so sincere, honest, and joyful. Everywhere you look, there are smiles. I have come to learn that the bottom line is that, though they may have broken bodies or broken minds, each and every one of these individuals has a beautiful soul loved by God. I know I have so much I need to learn from them.
