Being in the midst of mountains this month, The Lord revealed to me how the mountain-top analogy in regards to our relationship with The Lord applies to me personally.
One morning while sitting on a huge rock during my quiet time, I was staring at a perfectly shaped mountain, with it’s beautifully rounded tip top, and it’s deep sloping valleys on either side. I more clearly understood what it means to not be able to just stay on the top of our mountains in life. It’s dip before the peak and valley after represent the tough work it takes to get up to the top, which holds what He has waiting for us. The valley after represents the “mundane” day to day we go through in comparison to the incredible mountaintop experience we just had. God showed me how this 11 months of my life journey is most definitely one of those mountaintops He graciously guides us up onto- that I can’t expect the next season of my life to parallel the accelerated healing, growth and understanding that He’s taken me through these past 9 months. That I may not be surrounded with the exact incredible community of like-minded, radical, encouraging sisters and brothers in Christ that I’ve been blessed to have. However, we aren’t supposed to just forget our mountaintop and leave it behind. We continue referring back to it, meditating on that view, that experience, and bringing and applying it into the daily before the next mountaintop. That’s where the hope comes into play! Being hopeful and knowing God in his graciousness has another mountain ahead for us even though it’s a long trek down, and then back up again.
He wants us to be joyful in that process; knowing that there’s so many more mountains in life to go through and learning how to be totally and completely content and at rest no matter the point we’re at.
I know this isn’t it, that it’s only the beginning of many, many more mountains during my short stay here on earth. After the Race finishes at the end of July, He calls me to apply everything he’s taught and imparted to me over this year, to continue choosing to walk into the new freedoms He’s brought me into, and to encourage and build the communities around me that I’m placed into.
