Our last month in Malaysia has looked quite different for our team than the previous 5 months. For starters, we were doing “Unsung Heroes”, which is basically seeking out those ministries and organizations who are actively furthering God’s Kingdom, and who could be potential ministry contacts for AIM to send World Race teams to work alongside them in the future.

This has allowed the team freedom regarding going to those places and people that The Lord calls us to and prompts us to seek out. For the majority of the month, God continued to lead us to people and ministries in Kuala Lumpur and the outskirts of KL; we did venture up to Penang for a few days as well (about 6 hours from KL)- overall LOTS of travel, encouraging and praying for those ministries we came into contact with, and a very diverse look into what The Lord is doing here in Malaysia.

One of our very first days venturing out, we left our hostel with the intention of going to this church we assumed was connected to a ministry our mentors Ruth and Phil had shared with us, The School of Acts, the church being named Acts Church. Long story short, public transportation is not super reliable with timeliness, and by the time we got to the church (after first hitting up the wrong location) we got there for the last 15 minutes. Cool story, turns out the church had no affiliation with School of Acts, but God led us to this church knowing the incredible friendships we were going to make by going there, and the connection for future Race teams it held.

Acts Church has a diverse congregation of Malays, Africans, Indians, and Chinese. They were incredible at reaching out to new-comers and we immediately felt like family. We were taken into their Homes group, which are small groups focusing on connecting people in more intimate & relational ways within the church body. Acts main focus is on the youth, through a program they call REVOlution, and they have several ministries reaching out to specific age groups within that: Acts Kids, Acts Teens, Campus, and Young Working Adults. While there we were able to attend one of their programs, a 70’s night which focuses on building relations and community with the young adults. I loved the intentionality of the programs held, and the people we met were reflections of everything the church stood for. That is how we met some new amazing friends, who graciously opened up their home, time, and finances to us for the month. We had a place we considered a home-base throughout all the transitions that the month held. We had the opportunity to enter into some heavily anointed prayer and worship sessions within the church, as well as outside the church in these incredible ladie’s home.

Despite it being against the law to actively promote the Gospel in Malaysia, The Lord opened up formerly closed doors to do so, and opened our eyes to all of the work He has been doing here and the powerful, rooted people of Christ he has positioned here in the midst of it all. Please keep Acts Church, their leaders, their congregation, and the incredible women we met in your prayers (Ee Laine, T’Ray, Wabo, Sheree, Joy, Nikki, Rachel, Dreams, Noah), thank you!! Some of the beautiful women we had the privilege of meeting & living with from Acts Church. They showed us what it looked like to offer true Christ-like hospitality.
