Some interesting things I have learned about Thailand:
1. Wearing shoes inside a Thai home is a BIG NO-NO! I have had to learn this the hard way, forgetting that my flip-flops were on and having to sheepishly bring them outside after being called out.
2. The head is the 'holiest' part of the body, so touching anyone on the head is off-limits. Which also poses problems with my constant desire to touch children's heads in an affirming "hey, little friend" pat.
3. The currency exchange is approximately $30 Thai Baht to $1 US Dollar. (30:1) Everything here is so cheap, I think I might buy a guitar at the night market for $900 Baht…
4. Coke comes in cute little glass bottles. They are literally like Mini-Me Coke bottles and I love them 🙂
5. On the topic of drinks, Thai iced coffee is made with espresso and sweetened condensed milk and is SO delightfully enjoyable on a hot day (average 90 degrees here).
6. There are many illegal refugees from Burma in Thailand.
7. 7-11 Convenience stores seem to have a monopoly here, there's one on every corner.
8. People have monkeys, lemurs, and lizards as pets.
9. Motorbikes and cycles are more common than cars.
10. The commercial sex industry is an incredibly vast and powerful market in Thailand, especially the tourist areas of Phuket and big cities like Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
