Two words that can make any World Racer cringe and start stressing out just at the sound. Travel days usually require hours and hours of cramped buses, loading and unloading large awkward packs, sleeping in weird or unusual places and lots and lots of waiting, usually on the side of the road.
But something I realized on this last bus ride from Swaziland to South Africa (one of our easiest travel days, only about an 11 hour drive in a bus that has two seats too few after about 4 hours of waiting for the bus to arrive) is how much I truly LOVE travel days.
Every travel day I have this moment when I look up from the book I am reading, my game of Fruit Ninja, or the inflight movie I am watching and look out the window to see some new part of the world flying by.
The green landscape and coast of Northern Ireland, the villages in the fields and grasslands of India, the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal, the exposed rock mountains of Swaziland, and most recently the sun setting over the plains of South Africa.
It is in those moments when it truly hits me that I am seeing the world. Little glimpses of this earth He has created just for us, parts of the world that seem foreign and exotic to me, but are just normal everyday home to others. It makes me think of my home and the beauty that I see every day but just write off as normal life.
What a world we have, so much of God’s beauty and creativity packed into one place and so much of it we miss every day because we are too busy or just not paying attention.
As crazy and sometimes stressful travel days and life in general can be, I never want to miss a chance to see more of this world.
Don’t miss out…
Stop and look out the window at the world passing by.
It was created just for you.
It is a gift for you from the Creator himself.
Enjoy it.
