Training Camp is the week of the mysterious in the World Race realm. No one alumni or staff will really tell you anything about it other than: there is no way to truly be prepared, come with no expectations, and embrace every moment because believe it or not it will fly by and you will miss it later on.

Well, as a now WR Training Camp alum. I can honestly say….They were right.

And as annoying as it is being a type A personality and having no specifics, I survived. (Not in the 'I survived but it was the worst thing I have ever done I barley made it out alive' kind of survived. But the 'it was hard, I was stretched, but it sure was an exciting, meaningful, and fun week and I would not change it for the world.' kind of way.)

Here’s some of what I learned:

  1. To rely on my squad when I literally have nothing
  2. That I need to become a better dancer to be an adequate World Racer
  3. My value is not found by how well I live up to others expectations,  my value is found at the foot of the cross
  4. That I do not have to have all the answers
  5. How to best construct a legit hammock city
  6. That I am a precious daughter who is allowed to have and express emotions
  7. How to fit 50+ people and packs on a school bus for a night
    • Still working on how to do so and sleep….
  8. That my pain matters and it is real
  9. How to serve eight people dinner from one bowl of food
  10. That my Daddy hears me and RESPONDS
  11. That World Racer’s like things in sets of 11

Training Camp did not just prepare me for life on the field to ‘do mission work’ it taught me how to be a real person, with struggles and imperfections, who just loves Christ more than myself and wants others to know and experience that kind of Love.
