About Me

Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to check out my official World Race blog. It seems so surreal to be saying  those words and to be officially apart of the World Race family! I am so excited to see what God is going to do in and through me during the process of preparation, training, and going out on the field!

I could literally go on and on about how excited I am, but before I do that I want to let you know just who you are reading about! My name is Shelby McKinney and the most important thing about me is that I am a daughter of the KING! My prayer is that while you journey with me through this incredible experience that you will see less of me and more of God. This might be "my blog" but at the end of the day its not about Shelby McKinney, its about Jesus Christ!

Now that we have that straightened out, let's see… Im twenty years old and a senior at USC-Upstate.
Currently I am the youth director/minister at Fairforest Baptist Church and I love my students with all of my heart!  I don’t remember any point in my life that I have not absolutely loved children, and I know that isn’t a coincidence. I know God designed me for a purpose and that he created my heart to specifically cater to the plans he has for me. As much as I love children my heart breaks for the injustice that so many have to endure. I don’t want to just sit back and watch people rob these precious souls of their innocence, I want to do something about it. Which is why I am majoring in Psychology with a double minor in Child Advocacy and Non-Profit Administration. I will graduate in May of this year, in 62 days to be exact.  I am a go-getter who often  tries to plan things out four steps in advance, only to see my plans crumble before me. Time and time again God teaches me that HIS plans for me are far better for me.

Another one of the most important parts of what makes me who I am is my family. I wouldnt be the person I am today without each and every one of my family members and their continued guidance, support, discipline, encouragement, and prayers! I have been blessed beyond measure with a HUGE family, which just means more people to love, and more people to love me. Its a win-win situation! 

I couldnt complete this blog without mentioning my friends and church family. Once again I am blessed to have such amazing people who speak truth into my life even when it's not easy. Their continuous support and faithfulness has been, and will continue to be, helpful along my journey.

All of these things make up who I am today, and looking back I can see how God beautifully placed every moment of my life together to be apart of this amazing adventure called the World Race. He has prepared me, He is continuing to prepare me, and as long as I am breathing He will still be preparing me for plans far greater than myself.
