This is the hard part of the months leading up to the race. I don’t think any one likes asking others for money. It doesn’t seem fair!
We are raised to be strong, independent, and to take care of ourselves. So what does one do when God calls us to raise money? It’s not a simple answer.
I am still trying to figure this all out about how to raise over $16,000 for this trip. It may sound selfish to ask for this amount of money to live off of for a year, but one must take a step back and take another look. Sure, I have the joy of “running the race” and I get to see all these beautiful countries. The purpose of this trip however is not just to travel and see 11 different countries (although that is a pretty awesome perk). The purpose to me is to grow in my relationship with God and telling others about the love He has for us. Jesus has the capability of changing lives, do you want to be a part of that?
I need this trip as much as those who I will meet on the field. I am not perfect. I struggle talking to God. I have sinned. I don’t always live a Christ-centered life. But I do want to see God move in miraculous ways and live in a community striving to serve Him.
Now to the current task: raising money! Honestly, I cannot raise the money for this trip on my own. I must rely on God (and you…) to help raise this money needed. I am starting to get into fundraising mode!
This weekend, I am having a garage sale to benefit my mission fun. If anyone is in the Dayton, Ohio area – come check it out! (info on Facebook) It will be Saturday and Sunday (9-3 and 10-2)
Also, its almost my birthday! I will be 22 years old on June 10th. I do not want any gifts or money given to me this year. All I ask is that my family and friends donate at least $22 dollars to my account. If I get at least 22 people to donate 22 dollars (or just the total amount of money) I am letting my little brother throw a cake in my face and post the video online! I hope this is a good motivation for people to support a great cause!
In closing, this fundraising thing is hard. I pray about it all the time that God will supply me with the needs. If you would like to join me in making this sometimes negative world (obviously not everywhere) a better place, please help out by donating!
