There have been several moments recently where I have had to stop and fully focus on something at hand.
A really good song.
A beautiful sunset.
A perfect cup of coffee.
Life is full of beautiful things that elicit feelings I don’t quite know how to put words to. They don’t need words. They just deserve to be felt. And more often than not, I choose to appreciate them, but never actually stop what I’m doing to devote my full attention for just a few minutes. But let me tell you, there is something so beautiful that happens when you do. It doesn’t take much. It won’t hurt you. Take a few minutes and just rest. Sit in the moments that are full of beauty and joy and soak it in and don’t let it pass you by.
Our generation has a problem. We are discontent with where we are, so we distract ourselves, focus our attention somewhere other than where we are, and we miss out on so many beautiful things that are happening right in front of us. We are so engrossed in our phones that we miss out on the beautiful people sitting right in front of us. When is the last time that you sat with your friends and payed attention to their facial features or the way that they say certain words or how they laugh when something is really funny? People are adorable and they are beautiful and they have words that deserve to be heard and qualities that deserve to be admired.
When is the last time that you saw a beautiful sunset and you actually stopped to focus your mind on absorbing the fullness of its beauty? When is the last time you enjoyed a song and you closed your eyes and sat still for a moment and let the words and notes sink deep?
We are so discontent, but why? There is so much to be seen, so much to be experienced. We are so focused on some place else, that we forget that there is a beautiful life going on right now in front of us.
So stop.
Give life your full attention. Every moment, the good and the bad and the beautiful and the shitty. Life deserves our full attention. We live in a beautiful world and we have been given a beautiful life. Take it all in. Live where you are.
