Everyday, Monday through Friday, I get on the 101 bus and
head to the Hospital in Georgetown, Penang. I arrive 30 minutes later, head to
the HR department to sign in and pick up my name tag and vest. Afterward, I
head to the Development department to pick up books, teddy bears and a donation
box and begin making my rounds in the hospital. Not at all the ministry I
thought I would be doing however, a rewarding one in so many ways.

This month, our team is working to raise funds so patients who can’t afford cancer surgery/treatment or children who need heart
surgery/treatment and can’t afford it, are able to have the procedures due to
the donations. Our goal: 1000 ringett a day; A heart surgery for a child: 25,000
ringett (basically about $7,500 or so USD).

In addition to fundraising, we sometimes separate into teams
and go do Chaplaincy or if the Development department or Human Resources has
other things they need help with, we do.

This may not exactly sound like what you think a World Racer
should be doing. Neither did I ever think it would be something I’m doing.
However, this is what God has for us and I can see a little bit of why.

Malaysia is a mix of cultures, ethnicities, religions.
Around 50-60% are Muslim, the rest are a mix of Hindu and Buddhist
religion.  It’s not exactly a closed
country but it’s not 100% free either as it is illegal to evangelize to a Muslim.
It is through the relationships that we develop daily that we share
Christ. It is through our actions, words, attitudes that He is seen. We can’t
exactly walk out onto the street or go door to door proclaiming the Gospel.

We are here to put a simple smile on someone’s face as we
dance and sing through the hospital trying to get people to donate (and they
may begin to wonder why these crazy westerners are in the hospital “working”);
we are here to encourage the Christians already working in the Hospital; we are
here to make a relationship with the Indian man at the convenience store
underneath our apartment.

Our ultimate goal: to spread the love of Jesus Christ and
the hope of salvation through him to the Nations. How we go about doing that,
well, that’s God’s doing and I may not always understand it or feel like I’m
doing it but God will use whatever we give him to use. So, I’m just going to
continue ministering in whatever situation He puts me in knowing that His will
be done, not mine.
