It is absolutely gorgeous here! Unlike Kenya and Uganda, Rwanda doesn’t throw their trash on the ground and there are not allowed to be any plastic bags. I don’t know what they do with their trash but it makes a huge difference to not see trash on the side of the road. The roads here are paved, laws are abided by, and it is very westernized, more than Uganda and Kenya. English isn’t spoken much here; mostly French or Rwandan. However, 2 years ago they decided to do away with anything French because of the genocide in 1994. Now everything is to be taught in English or Rwandan language so there is a huge need for people to teach English here.

That is mostly our ministry. It’s weird this month to not be focused on door to door evangelism or crusades. This month it is simply about loving the people. In the mornings we teach English to 3-6 year olds and then in the afternoon we alternate between teaching English to adults or doing evangelism. The language barrier is difficult so we always have to have a translator everywhere we go. Maybe that’s why God laid on my heart the “Love Chapter” 1 Corinthians 13; maybe this month is just simply loving the people through what we do, not what we say. A very different month.

Rwanda definitely needs love! It’s only been 18 years since the genocide. It is a touchy subject here and actually illegal to discuss. If you have no idea what I’m talking about go watch the movie Hotel Rwanda. More than anything these people need to know that God loves them. That they were all created by the same God and come from the same place no matter what title or culture is placed on them.

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” -God (Joshua 1:5b)
