Today is December 7, 2010, 3 months and 7 days ago I sat on
a worn out sofa in front of a friends house with two lists in my hand: One a pack
list from the World Race and 2nd a Recommended pack list from a
friend.

Both of them over 4 pages long and very intimidating. Soo
much stuff to sift through.

Ive never done any backpacking of any sort, unless you count
all those years in school. I spent a summer at a church camp, but there I had a
huge suitcase with plenty of everything and stores nearby to buy more. What do
you put in a backpack that you’ll carry around the world for a year!?

Not much/Too much..

I packed:

10 shirts- Ive worn 4. Cut down to 5.

3 pairs of pants- Ive worn 1. Cut down to 2.

5 gym shorts- Ive worn 3. Gave one away

Swim suit- Solid to have

One Rain Jacket- Ive used that plenty

One Pullover Sweater- Use it all the time

3 pairs of chonies – Perfect amount J

Rain Pants- Worn those once

2 unscented deodorants- Im buying scented
deodorant, its needed

3 shoes- Wear all of those

Rainbow Flip flops- New best friends

Mess Kit and utensils- Used a few times, using it more this
month

Sleeping bag- Used it all last month over a dirty bed

Tent- Never used, tired of carrying it, ready to through it
out

Sleeping mat- Using it this month, very comfy

Pepto, Vit C, basic shower stuff, 1st aid kit,
towel, bug repellant- All Good

Regular Pillow- Best thing packed

Ipod with wall charger- 3rd best thing packed

Bible, books, and journal- 2nd best things packed

Camera- Good to have

Duct Tape- You really can use this for anything

1 airplane blanket- Solid grab, use it all the time

Airporter duffle for Backpack- Its great to have

Water Bottle- Use it more than I thought

My pack weights around 45lbs, im trying to cut down a few
more lbs

I didn’t bring Qtips or laptop, should have

I brought a small day bag that’s been nice, it’s a bit
smaller than a regular school backpack. It fits my books, bible, journal, bug
spray, camera, ipod, pens, and toothpaste/toothbrush. Perfect.

 A majority of
the people on our squad talk about bringing too much rather than not enough. Im
in the same boat.

Advise:

Pack like your going on a weeklong camping trip to the
mountains in Tennessee in October.

Much Love
