What is it like to spend pre-Christmas in China you ask?
Interesting, for sure.
Very few Christmas decorations are up. With the exception of a few shops, you would have no idea it was a special holiday. Sometimes I almost forget that it’s almost Christmas minus the random fake creepy Santa.
I never hear Christmas music here, but I am not surprised. The “Gangum Style” song though is quite the catch in practically every store.
We, on the other hand, have not stopped listening to Christmas music since right before Thanksgiving. We extended the grace period.
So what Nat King Cole has to do with China…………….
“The Christmas Song” has quite a few accurate lines of what we see.
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
They sell these EVERYWHERE. I really think we stole the idea from China. I have tried them, and I have to say they aren’t as desirable as Nat King Cole makes them sound. Don’t let that ruin the song though.
Jack Frost nipping at your nose.
Here in China, it is COLD. Perhaps that’s because we just came from Africa, but I would describe it just as Nat does.
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir.
Not really, but we sing them as God’s choir!
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.
Because of the cold, we had to quickly buy boots, coats, leggings, scarves, and hats. Yes, our coats have fur and make us look like Eskimos.
I will never be able to hear that song and not think of China for the rest of my life. Hilarious.
