What did God teach me?
God taught me that He is the source of all of my strength. It is only through Him that I can do anything. A week or so into our stay, I discovered that my bunk had previous occupants – bedbugs, fleas and/or other parasites. Not going to lie – it’s been a little rough. Kellie asked me half-way through if I had ever contracted Chicken Pox. After a month of this, my legs look good 🙂
Apart from rather my rather aggressive bed-mates, I had to rely on God during a crazy travel day. With several people sick on the team, we truly shared each other’s burdens as we hauled packs for those who couldn’t carry their own. Every step I took, I knew that it was only through the grace of God that I would take another step. Praise the Lord, we made it!!!!
God has been teaching me

Who will I remember?
German
First, I loved our Guatemalan ministry contact, German Espana. He and his family truly welcomed us and allowed to to become partners with them in the work they were doing.
German works constantly for the Mayan people – his people. He works from early morning til late in the night, leaving barely enough time to care for his family of seven. God has given him a huge heart for the lost and hurting people in his community. He tirelessly works to provide food, medicine, love, work for the widows in Xenacoj. Throughout the month, new sides of German kept appearing. The first day, we visited a widow – Mrs. Faustina. As he described her plight, German broke down. Before our last week of ministry, German picked up Amanda’s guitar from the chair and started playing classical guitar.
What is my prayer?
I pray that God will bring unity to Guatemala, just as He brought unity to our team this month. The evangelical churches and the Catholic church are at odds with each other and fight within themselves. I pray that God will draw them together as the bride of Christ. I pray that they will fulfill the Great Commission and be the hands and feet Christ in the world. I also pray that unity will come to country as a whole. The civil war ended just a few years ago and the wounds are still deep.
