My World Race Purse and birthday

Pure Entertainment:

So, at home, I carried a pretty huge purse.  It consisted of all the normal things:

  1. at least five lip gloss/chapstick’s
  2. my planner
  3. ten pencils/pens for every occasion
  4. my cell phone
  5. my car and house keys,

Now I am on the World Race: An 11 month to 11 countries mission trip to serve the Lord and grow in faith.  As I was “cleaning out” my purse today, I found the contents rather odd and random.

  1. sleeping mask
  2. knife
  3. socks (you never know when Africa will get cold at night)
  4. toilet paper (advised when going abroad)
  5. emergency candy bar ( for when a 4 hour bus ride turns into 8 hours)
  6. ipod and  ipod charger
  7. 3 different currencies
  8. water
  9. fruit
  10. bible
  11. book
  12. 1 pen and 1 highlighter
  13. earplugs
  14. HEADLAMP

Most important things: headlamp and Bible.  I haven’t left “home” without either in an extremely long time!!  World Race!

UPDATE:
I am now serving in Eldoret, Kenya.  My team is doing construction for a very new, small church, sharing the gospel with the community, and putting mud walls on the church.  We live in a mud home with a hysterical pastor, his wife and two little boys.  We just arrived, on my birthday ( :0 )
On my Kenyan birthday, I arrived on a bus to our village at 6 am after an 8 hour night bus ride where I got to watch my two favorite movies (the Man from Snowy River and Fireproof) with my sweet teammate Raven.  We woke up at ten for breakfast and then  went on a walk to see our new community.  We found a lake and then a fun adventure of meeting mud fishermen who double as truck washers for their jobs.  They led us around the lake to see a hotel and walked us right past a stone blasting zone.  We had to run so we wouldn't get hit with the falling stones…fun times.  I got to pet two cows and see herds of livestock and a small stockyard.  At night my teammates gave me great gifts of apple juice, a beautiful necklace, peanut brittle, chocolate, pringles and encouraging letters..oh and cake flavored popcorn!  Creativy is wonderful!   Ended the night with pens( World Race style spoons)!  Then I read my mom's birthday card she sent with my 7 months ago.  I miss you Mom..but that card made MY WEEK!
