I have just ended a very memorable 26th birthday. It was a full day of birthday celebration, which is totally Bling style. My wonderful team spoiled me today. I started my day with a package of baby wipes with my first note of the day. For each Blingers birthday we give gifts all day long with clues or notes with them. My second gift was a can of Florida Natural orange juice. Just like home! I also got a big ol’bar of Tolberone with my breakfast. Next was a midmorning snack of double stuff Oreos that I received in my class I teach at the Christian school we are working at. I help teach a playgroup of 3and 4 year olds. It happened to also be one of the kids birthdays today, so we had a birthday with cake for both me and Candy, who turned 3 today. At lunch I got an Apple juice tea (an Indonesia drink) and an incredible attempt at a S’more. You can not find a marshmallow in this country. My afternoon treat was a package of mentos and Indonesia’s version of peanut M&Ms. I received this during our English class for teachers at the school. Since it was my birthday the teachers sang to me and we had so Indonesian snacks, which usually means something fried such as a fried banana. At dinner I received an orange fanta and my birthday cake. Blair and Liz went through much effort to try and get me a yellow cake with chocolate frosting. My cake was delicious.
God decided to really bring some home to me on my birthday. One of the women in the neighborhood who is American made us an Apple pie! We were so surprised and super excited. It was a great blessing and reminder of home. My birthday ended in normal Bling fashion with a list of 26 reasons I am loved (they usually leave you rolling on the floor laughing) and a poem. My team even has worked out a trip to the beach on Saturday for me which is what I wanted to do for my bday. I have been so blessed today.
Thank you to everyone back at home for the cards you sent me. I loved them and feel very loved and missed back at home. Thank you Ms. Hornbeck’s class for praying for my team and me and for your beautiful cards.
I will never forget my 26th birthday in Indonesia.
