May 31st was the day we had all been waiting for. Scotty and I had asked that our nine team leaders, plus the wives of two of the team leaders, head off to our Month Eight Debrief two days early to safari in the wild lands of Kenya. At 5:00am on May 31st the thirteen of us boarded two safari vans and headed north three hours to Lake Nakuru National Park.
We popped the top off of the van once we arrived at the park and took off down the dirt road around the lake. The morning dew was beginning to burn off the grass as we began our sightseeing. Hundreds of monkeys crowded the road and provided several minutes of entertainment. The next hour was sprinkled with views of impalas, RHINOS, birds, and ZEBRA. We hopped out of our van for a few minutes to take pictures of the bird on the lake and then we got “the call”…LIONS!!! I don’t think we could have jumped back in our vans fast enough. Our driver sped up the road until we finally saw them. Amazing! We had heard that the lions were a rare sight on this safari- what a blessing it was to actually see them!
Our eight hour safari blew my expectations out of the water! God has some serious talent for creating beautiful scenery: lions, giraffes, zebras, water buffalo, flamingos, rhinos, moneys, and more!
We stopped for a picnic lunch in a field, and then drove through the last hour of the safari before heading back to Nairobi. The drive home was rather quiet until we reached the Great Rift Valley where we hopped out to take pictures and video of the gorgeous view. The Valley extended as far as your eyes could see. It was absolutely breath-taking!
WHAT A DAY! 🙂
