Cluck…Cluck…Cluck…Crunch!
Today I killed my first chicken. Yes, you heard me right. Emmy, Pastor Patrick’s wife, walked to the market to buy chickens for dinner, and I offered to help slaughter them. I wish that I could say that I was forced to slice it’s neck, but the truth is that I was estatic to offer my help. I’m unsure why, and frankly I’m kind of embarrassed to admit it, but slaughtering a chicken was on my bucket list of things to tackle on the Race.
I decided to publish an article, “How To Kill A Chicken In Africa.” It goes like this:
Step 1: Buy a chicken.
Step 2: Change into black clothes.
Step 3: Talk through the process with someone who has done it before.

Step 4: Sheepishly walk up to the chicken.
Step 5: Step on its feet and hold its neck tighly in your hand
Step 6: Cringe, squeal, and wonder why you didn’t negotiate payment for killing everyone’s dinner.
Step 7: Firmly grasp knife.
Step 8: Begin sawing.
Step 9: Continue sawing even with the chicken is trying to escape and you hear the knife working away on the spine.
Step 10: When the head falls off, push down on the neck and let it bleed out…or let someone else step in and do that step for you!

P.S. As I type this blog Pastor Patrick tells me that next week he is going to buy either a goat or a sheep and he will need help killing it…I may have a sequal coming…!!!
