The month of November has been absolutely incredible!  We are heading out today for a week of Debrief in Granada, Nicaragua and I find myself holding back tears as I pack. This last week in Honduras alone has been a week full of life-long memories:

– We spent Thanksgiving day and the day after tearing off the bat infested roof of the guest home at La Finca.  Once the metal roof was off we were able to shovel out trash cans full of bat guano and leave the roof open to air dry.  The next day we mixed cement and poured it on the outline of the roof and reset the metal roof and skylights on it to keep the bats from sneaking in again. I will never forget this time of Thanksgiving where I was chased by bats, hopped from 2×4 to 2×4 on a metal roof, and barely escaped with my life (slight exaggeration). haha

– We created a version of Thanksgiving Dinner with roasted chickens, bread rolls, green bean caserol, pumpkin pie, and banana pudding and boy was it delicious!  We moved two eight foot tables together and the 14 of us plus Tony and Henry sat around and said what we were thankful for that evening.  I sat across from Henry and I was moved to tears as I watched his eyes grow wide at the amount of food he was able to eat in one meal.  We explained to him about the holiday of Thanksgiving and even offered for him to particpate in breaking the wishbone with Tony.  Henry LOVED it to the point that he found it difficult to wipe his sweet smile off his face. 🙂

– PRAISE REPORT!!!  Last Saturday Cristofer gave his heart to the Lord.  The stronghold that thinner has had on his life is still in the process of being broken, but he is ready to let go and give God the reigns of his life. He and Tony took a walk up on the mountain early Saturday morning and had a good conversation about where Cristo’s life was headed. Cristo said he thought it was the right timing to give God control of his life, and they stood and prayed right then and there.  When they returned back from their walk and heard the great news we all ran up to him with hugs and congrats.  It was the neatest experience to be there the day that someone you cares about makes the best decision of their life! 🙂

– Saying goodbye to the Los Pinos children was extremely difficult. Many notes, bracelets, tears, and hugs were had.  I’m hoping this is not the last time I will see these children.

– Our last full day in Honduras we wanted to do something special for the boys so we took them to the Pacific Ocean.  When Tony told them they were going to la playa (the beach) they flipped out- for real- running up walls, running around with thier hands in the air telling the whole community they were going to la playa.  I’ve never seen a group of kids so excited before in my life.  All 23 of us piled into two vehicles and began the three hour road trip.  Once we arrived we had to take a 40 minute boat ride to the island the beach was on, and we spent the day swimming in the warm water, running on the beach, watching sting rays filleted, and enjoying the breeze.

On the way home from the ocean I sat in the back of the trunk with Luis.  I gave him a hug and told him that I would miss him and he said “Yo tambien” (I also). Moments later I felt wet tears hitting my leg.  I looked down to see him silently weeping and gripping me with all his strength.  I caved.  For a solid ten minutes we just embraced and cried.

I’m definitely going to be leaving a portion of my heart behind with these boys. November 2010 is a month I hope to never forget.
