I made you promises a thousand times
I tried to hear from Heaven
But I talked the whole time
I think I made you too small
I never feared you at all, no
If You touched my face would I know you
Looked into my eyes would I behold You

What do I know of you
Who spoke me into motion
Where have I even stood
But the shore along Your ocean
Are you fire, are you fury
Are you sacred, are you beautiful
So what do I know, what do I know of holy

What do I know of holy
What do I know of wounds that will heal my shame
And a God who gave life it’s name
What do I know of holy
Of the one the angels praise
All creation knows your name
Of earth and heaven above
What do I know of this love…        – Addison Road

Last Tuesday I had the opportunity to climb Volcán de Pacaya, an active volcano in Guatemala. Pacaya last erupted on May 27, 2010, causing ash to rain down in Guatemala City and Antigua.  As I road my horse up 3+ miles near the top of the volcano I could hardly believe the beautiful landscape that spanned across the horizon.

This adventure was the last group activity that my squad would participate in before we dispursed into

different ministry locations for the duration of the month, but it was also the first of many adventures and “firsts” to come.  The ride was great, but we eventually came to a point on the trail where we had to dismount our horses and begin a hike over steaming lava on foot.  It was about 20 minutes into our hike that our Pacaya guide took a tree branch and stuck it into a hole in the ground that I assumed held lava a few feet below.  Almost instantaneously the branch became a burning bush, and you know what that means….bags of marshmallows flew open and the celebration began! 🙂

We stayed ontop of the volcano for what seemed like forever, although it was not nearly long enough.  The feeling of being so high, ontop of something so enormous, and looking out on some of the most beautiful, live scenery I’ve ever seen only made me think of one thing…its Creator.

I was not the only one pondering the depth of His love for me… as we reached a landing on the side of the volcano my Squad wanted to do only one thing, and it’s the one thing we have grown to do well….DECLARATIONS! 🙂

Just picture this, sixty-four hungry, passionate leaders standing on the mountain-side, overlooking this scenery, shouting at the top of our lungs…

“My prayers are powerful and effective!” (2 Cor 5:21, James 5:16)

“I expect to have powerful, divine appointments today to heal the sick, raise the dead, prophesy life, and lead people to Christ- to bring deliverance, to release signs and wonders, and to bless every place I go!” (the book of Acts)

“I speak to this day and I call you blessed. And I declare that I serve a mighty God who today will do exceedingly and abundantly beyond all that I can ask or think.  (Eph 3:20) I say you are a GOOD GOD and I eagerly anticipate your goodness today!”

I honestly cannot think of anything I would have rather been doing… 🙂
