Living For An Audience of One

God works in interesting ways; if only I could grasp the fact that I will never figure him out. He will never cease to amaze me! This week the Lord used a box of hair dye to reveal some very ugly truth in me. God, I thank you for being so evident to me. You use anything and everything to get my attention so that I can get real with you. Lord continue to sift out anything that is not of you in me.

The Lord blessed me with another hair dresser on my team. So when we ran across hair color, naturally, what do two hairdressers wanna do? We were stoked; who would have known hair dying would even be possible on the race. We thought God is so good! We picked a spot in the yard and began our glorious spa day.

All seemed well until… Honduran hair color failed us horribly. This didn’t make since according to the numerical system of hair color there was no logical explanation to why her hair turned out to be a yellow orange color. Things got even better very quickly. We ran to go rinse it out and realized the water was completely out. In Honduras when the water goes out it could be anywhere from a few ours up to a day before the water truck could come. We had to get it off before things got worse; so as nasty as this sounds, turtle water was our only option. Thankfully we remembered that there was another hairdresser at our ministry site. We quickly ran up to her room in hope that she would have something to fix this tragic incident. Luckily she did. We put a toner on it, prayed over it, and waited. Unfortunately that didn’t help much. So we went back to her and asked if she had lightener and praise the Lord she did. So we began the next go round praying harder than before. Having no idea that the Lord was already at work. It turned out orange. There was nothing logical about this; we kept trying to figure it out but nothing could explain our dilemma and why things kept getting tragically worse.

As we are sitting in a tent together. The enemy is on the prowl. Lies and insecurities start creeping in. She’s insecure about her hair and fear of man is devouring my pride. Pride in which I did not know I had. Pride disguised and rooted in fear. The Lord used her to sift out the ugly in me. Selfishness, pride, and fear rose up but thankfully God uses these moments to bring darkness into the light. He brings it up and out. Thank you Lord that you don’t allow us to stay where we are. Father I call flesh and spirit into alignment with your word.

Lets get real with ourselves! Do you want to be freed up from old patterns and old behaviors? Things your not proud of or things that really don’t display who you really are? Then humble yourself before the Lord. Ask Him to reveal the root, to call it up, call it out, and replace it with truth. Because of our authority in Him, call your flesh and spirit into alignment with His word. So that your kingdom identity is revealed and claim it!
