Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, it’s off to Camp we go! …

No doubt that you are excited and nervous and anxious and ready to go and curious about teams and scared about teams and looking forward to seeing what God is going to do and maybe apprehensive about not knowing fully what to expect…..whew!  There’s a lot to think about so let us take some of the stress off your back by telling you what you need to bring with you to Training Camp…..

The accommodations at training camp are somewhat primitive. Be sure you are prepared for any weather – hot afternoons, cold nights and mornings, rain, …snow? – ANYTHING!!

Here is what you need to bring:

  • Tent

  • Sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow, etc.

  • Clothes for the whole time.  Plan for mostly outdoor activities. (Adventures dress code does apply.)

  • Bring one nicer/semi-casual outfit.

  • Bring extra “work out” type clothing.

  • Rain Jacket.

  • Sweatshirt or zip up hoodie for chilly nights around a camp fire.

  • Shoes…we recommend bringing the shoes you think you want to wear on the Race. This could possibly include: every day type flip flops, a the more rugged sandal (Chacos, Keens, Tevas), and Athletic shoes (for running, sports, working out, or when you need closed-toed shoes.) You do NOT need to bring heavy hiking boots.

  • Water bottle/Nalgene.

  • A mug or tumbler if you want hot drinks.

  • Mess kit items (plastic bowl and plate and the ever popular SPORK are good ideas.) You do NOT need pots/pans or a stove.

  • Towel, personal hygiene items, baby wipes, shower shoes.

  • Basic First Aid items such as: mosquito spray, hand sanitizer, band aids, anti-bacterial wipes, sunscreen, aloe vera, and medicine for belly aches, headaches, allergies, bug bites.

  • Headlamp or flashlight….you’ll prefer a headlamp.

  • Bible, journal, pens…this is a must for processing!!

  • Spending money – enough for one meal, fun times with your team, and WR items to purchase at camp.

  • Laptop -this isn’t a must, but it wouldn’t be an awful thing to have for things like blogging, note taking, and saving pictures.

NOTE: Rain happens. It can hit suddenly and hard.  Be sure to keep your electronics stored in something waterproof at all times when you’re not using them!! Backpacks alone are NOT completely waterproof.

We do ask that you try to bring your full sized hiking backpack to Training Camp.  If you want to wait until after Training Camp to purchase a backpack, please borrow a backpack from someone else to use during camp.
