Hi family! My Mom read this to me today, and I thought I’d share it with you. It’s from one of her devotional books.

“When  you begin to pray, your life can take on all kinds of perils and problems that you never had before. Think about it. As far as we know, Abraham was living a comfortable, trouble-free life until he began to pray. It was through prayer that he heard God’s message to leave home, move out, hit the road for an unknown destination, and start a journey of indeterminate length. His life became exceedingly difficult and dangerous…

Prayer was the launching pad for Moses as well. He was quietly tending sheep in the Midian hills, leading a settled life with his wife and sons and his father-in-law. Things changed when he started to pray. It started dramatically enough at a burning bush, where he heard God speak to him and entrust him with an impossible task — that of leading the Israelites out of Egypt. From one perspective, that was the last really comfortable day of Moses’ life…

Peter, James, John, and Andrew were comfortable, middle-class businessmen, settled and respected in their community, until their dialog with Jesus began. As they responded to his invitation to, “Follow Me,” all of that ended. They embarked on three years of intense ministry and then carried out the commission to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28:19) in the face of unimaginable adversity and persecution…

That is the peril of prayer… As we begin to talk to God and hear Him speak to us, life may never be the same.”

Any thoughts?
