We are preparing to leave for ‘La Quinta’, which is the property in Diriamba where we will be living in our tents for the next three weeks. This property is triangle shaped and about 5 acres. I believe this was owned by the Simosas, who were a powerful family during communist times here. The property was used as a private zoo and was built by prison labor. Much of the property is being renovated to be used by the Schweitzers in the vision God has given them. The property needs a lot of work, but the vision is amazing.
The Schweitzers already have a clinic on the property and a church with attendance up to 250 people right now. This church has grown because of outreach to children, and as the children’s lives have been changed, the families have started to come. (Tonight I will be preaching, I will recycle my one message, but tomorrow I will preach again, so pray that God gives me words, both times.) The Schweitzers have almost completed their first group home on the property. This home will house 4-8 children, and will have a young couple living there. This young couple are Diego and Johanna. I am not sure their last name, but they are the youth leaders, and have been married for 4 months. (Diego is 23, and bilingual. This really helps us out.) I believe Glenn and Lynn envision six of these houses for young orphans. Glenn hates the idea of orphans being institutionalized and envisions a community of families of orphans. Continue to pray that God will raise up people to join this incredible vision, that people will hear God’s call and be obedient, to come and be parents to these kids.
As we walk through these barrios, and are welcomed into homes, men are conspicuous by their absence. House after house is run by a family of women and kids. It seems again that any man over fifteen is gone, or struggling with addictions. Kids are sent to work or to beg or to pick through the trash. These kids need Godly men and women, Godly couples to come and work. Just to show God’s love.
The harvest is so ripe. The workers are so few. How can we claim that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, while we lay on the couch and enjoy our ‘blessings’? Men, children are dying without love, dying without fathers, and you go to work and stress out about bills while your belly grows fatter! Open your eyes!
God is calling…. will you go?
