It seems that our call to missions started as more of an obvious lack of adventure and a decreasing zest for life…
Scott and I have always talked about how awesome it would be for us to go on a mission together. We always figured it would be quite the experience. Scott had gone on missions when he was younger, but I have not. So, recently Scott and I began talking about what we wanted for our futures and how we were feeling, and without knowing, we realized we were both yearning for some time of servitude and adventure. We began realizing that the little things we did in our lives were “fillers” not “fulfillers”. After four years of marriage all we had done was create a life filled with routine: school, eat, work, eat, sleep… and we just couldn’t handle it anymore. We were bored. As we reflected on our lives we realized that if we died tomorrow, we would have done essentially nothing that mattered… other than coming to Christ.
Our lives are filled with earthly things and that’s not what we want. We don’t want our worth to be measured by the type of jobs we have, or the home we own, or the cars we drive. We want to have adventure! Excitement! Purpose. We looked into our options and then I came across: Adventures in Missions… (boy, would that forever change our lives). Our pastor preaches a lot about “choices” and how they have the power to change our life drastically. He often talks about his choice to come to Christ, and how his life has turned out in comparison to his 2 high school best friends and the choices they made (they’re now both dead). I think that sometimes we get caught up living our lives for what society wants from us or what our parents dream of us and I think there comes a point when you have to decide for yourself whom you’re living your life for. That point in our lives is now…. and the “who” is God. Now here we are, our eyes and hearts are open and we’re ready to become the people Christ has called us to be.
“No regrets, not this time I’m gonna let my heart defeat my mind, Let Your love make me whole I think I’m finally feeling something, ‘Cause just okay is not enough Help me fight through the nothingness of this life….
I don’t wanna go through the motions, I don’t wanna go one more day without Your all consuming passion inside of me, I don’t wanna spend my whole life asking, “What if I had given everything, instead of going through the motions?”
