This evening there was this insane storm that blew in! We're talking crazy down pour, loud crashes of thunder, and intense bolts of lightning all over the place!! This was one crazy storm!
When I went out to my car, after most of the rain had stopped, there was a complete double rainbow in the sky. It was so cool, I have never seen two complete rainbows! As I was driving home, looking up at the sky every chance I thought it was safe, I had this aha moment where so many things that I have known for ages all of a sudden made complete sense!
I'm sure that you are aware that the rainbow is a sign from God to represent a covenant between God and every living creature that is on the earth. You can find this covenant in Genesis chapter 9, but the low down is that God told Noah to build and ark, Noah did it, two of every creature and Noah's family came to the ark, God flooded the Earth, everything that was alive on earth drowned, the water dried up, God told Noah and his sons to be fruitful and multiply, and then God does it! He makes the covenant between Himself and every creature on earth that He will never again use the water to destroy all flesh, and He said that the rainbow would be an everlasting reminder of His covenant! God made a promise, and He continues to stick to that promise!
So then that got me thinking, what other promises has God made that I take for granted or forget all about.
The one promise that I continually have to come back to is the promise that God is my Father, and it is everywhere in the Bible. Psalm 68:5 tells me that God is the Father to the fatherless. John 1:12 tells me that when I received Christ, God gave me the right to become his child, which makes Him my father. Galatians 3:23 tells me the same thing again. And the list could go on and on for as long as I needed it to in order to fully understand the promise that God is my father.
It has been almost three years since my dad died, and this promise is still the one that I forget the most, but when I remember it, it lifts my spirits like no other. Through all of the hurt and the pain that I feel from losing my dad I can trust that I had an incredible earthly example of a Heavenly father, and I am so thankful for that. It makes loving Jesus that much easier!
There are so many promises that God has made to us throughout the Bible, and it is also so easy to forget them as we go on with our daily lives. So right now I challenge you to sit and think about the various promises that God has made, and how incredible it is to have a God that loves us enough to not only make promises, but to also keep them as well!
We serve a good God!
