I have always wanted to come to Africa. But after having 5 so months in Asia I will admit that I was a bit nervous. I knew everything I needed to know about Asia. I knew wrong and right things to do, I knew how or what I was going to eat. I knew what I could or couldn’t wear. I KNEW ASIA, and I have loved Asia ever since going to Thailand a year ago.

It was a bittersweet goodbye in the Kathmandu airport at 11pm when we boarded our flight for Doha and then Uganda.

I didn’t know much or really anything about Africa. I didn’t know what I could or couldn’t wear, I didn’t know what kind of food they ate, and I didn’t know cultural dos and don’ts.. All the things that I knew about Asia but I didn’t know about here.

It was exciting stepping off that airplane in Uganda. I finally made it! I finally got to come to Africa. The sad part about it was that I always dreamed about coming here with my mom! (But exciting news is MY PARENTS ARE COMING TO KENYA NEXT MONTH TO VISIT ME AND DO MINISTRY WITH ME FOR A WEEK!)

Stepping of that plane was instant shock. IT WAS HOT! We had just been in freezing temps so it was a bit different. Another shock was how friendly people were. The lady at customs getting my stamp was the nicest I had ever met in the airport. She was all-talkative and I didn’t know whether to talk back or do my normal smile at the custom officers face.

My first impression of Africa was its so green, the air is clean, there are a lot of pregnant women and wow it reminds me of Jamaica.

I was a bit nervous after I made that statement because when I went to Jamaica a couple years ago, it was not my favorite place. But I knew that I was not going to judge Africa by Jamaica. And I was going to LOVE this place. And I do!

I love the babies strapped to their momma’s backs. I love the little school children in their uniforms. I love the elder women in their traditional colorful dresses. I love the red clay roads. I love that they love to hug here. I love that they are so hospitable.  I love Africa!
