The ride to prison was full of questions.
Where would we meet? What kind of people will we minister to? What is the security like? How will they recieve us?
My questions were answered after we arrived at the prison. We all sat outside for a while waiting to go in. Eventually a guard came for us and made sure we had nothing but our bibles with us.
He led us through one fence and then another. As we walked toward the tree in the center of the yard I heard the group of men singing.
It was a beautiful sound.
Then I noticed 8 plastic chairs in a line about 5-10 feet in front of the prisoners. There were our seats. We filed in and tried to sing along. After this the one small guard said something and our host introduced us. Dresdyn spoke a word involving her testimony that was beautiful and an inmate translated.
Afterward, the prisoners, our brothers in Christ, came up and shook our hands and thanked us for coming. As we were leaving on that sunny morning, I looked around and said, “This prison yard is beautiful.”
It was a sweet time worshipping the Lord with people who know they have sinned and need Jesus. Because we are all like them. We may not have broken man’s laws but we have all broken God’s.
I encourage you to see the beauty in all places and to mingle and worship with people who are different than you. It is such a blessing.
Much Love,
Saraya
