After we finished with our final month of ministry, we left Swaziland for our Final Debrief on Wednesday, November 16, at 12:00. We crossed the border between Swaziland and South Africa around 13:20. We arrived in Nelspruit, South Africa at 16:00 that day.
We spent five days in Nelspruit for debrief, where we processed and worked through memories of the year, and had a lot of fun spending as much time with each other as we possibly could.
On Monday the 21st, we left Nelspruit for Johannesburg at 11:00. We drove for about 4 hours, arriving at the airport at 15:20. Our plane took off for Qatar at 20:35. We arrived in Doha, Qatar at 06:00 local time on Tuesday.
We had about an hour and a half before boarding our next flight, and our plane took off for Chicago at 08:10. We arrived in Chicago at 13:45 local time, after a 14-hour flight.
We went through customs, which took about 20 minutes, said “see you later”s, and I headed to the check-in desks for Delta domestic flights. I checked in, went through security one last time of the Race, and headed to my gate. I then had to wait two long hours for boarding. I then got on the smallest plan I have been on ever…
My flight to Detroit left at 18:55. I arrived in Detroit at 20:40.
I met my family at the baggage claim (btw, patience is super hard to activate when you know your family is hundreds of meters away from you), and we drove the hour back to the house.
And just like that I’m back in the States…
