During preparations for Street Night (see my last post), our team talked a lot about the possibilities of spiritual warfare and what could happen. We talked so much about it, a couple of people actually brought up that it sounded like we were actually Satan his demons as bigger problems than they are. We had talked about it so much it was almost like we were expecting him to show up and we would not expect any less.
A couple people also mentioned wondering why we were expecting so much. Did we actually want these things to happen so God would get the glory, or because we selfishly wanted to see them happen?
In my opinion, our motives had gotten a bit skewed. We all expected to have horrible repercussions, and we’re praying against them. We were giving evil way more wiggle room that we should have. We all checked our hearts and started thinking harder. Would we still be okay, not disappointed, if God actually answered our prayers and nothing happened except good?
To me, we need to acknowledge that evil is at work. We need to not be naive about situations. We still need to pray and be “prepared” in our position with God. However, we should not have fear or expect anything to happen, nor should we automatically expect nothing to happen. We should not be surprised or scared when something does happen, because God has won, and we cannot assume we will be completely untouched by darkness wen we fight against it.
