Our first adventure day of Latvia, Palpable Presence decided to split because there were two extremely interesting places to see. Three of the team decided to go to the Baltic Sea coast near Riga, and the other four (me included) decided to go see the longest waterfall in Europe!

Tulsa Valum is around 820 feet wide, and in flooding seasons can be almost 900 feet wide!! It definitely isn’t the tallest waterfall in Europe though. It is about 5 feet tall right now, and gets to be about 7 feet tall during low water. When we went to see it, there were fish trying to jump out of the low side of the falls to the upper river, so they could swim farther up stream to mate. It was amazing to see the jumping height of some of these fish! They were about a foot long, and though they struggled to jump the four feet up to the upper river, they got pretty darn close every time they jumped!

Our second adventure day, we all decided to stay near Saldus. A couple people took a bus about 10 minutes away to go ice skating and watch a local ice hockey game. The rest of us stayed in Saldus, slept in a bit, then spent the rest of the day walking around town to all the establishments participating in a local art show!! The art was all very abstract, and extremely beautiful! Plus the day was gorgeous, and we got to have ice cream. No complaints!

For our last two adventure days we went to Riga, the capital of Latvia. Friday we went to the old city, some of the team went to a Latvian ballet, and two of us decided we wanted to walk around downtown. We just wandered around for a while and got to go in a few places just to see what they were. We also got to admire all the old buildings and the picturesque parks and streets!

The next day was we were celebrating the birthday of a teammate, so we got to do a lot of stuff in the old city! First we went to an underground cafe for dinner, then wandered around in the old city looking for “something fun to do”, and ended up at a medieval festival in the town hall square. We stayed there a while, then headed to a brewery for some chocolate deserts, and then wandered around looking for some live music to dance. We didn’t end up finding a good club, and did end up see many awesome street acts, and getting to celebrate the life of EmilyAnn!!

That’s my Latvian Adventures.
