Today we took our second adventure day. Steven had mentioned trekking on Telaga Warna. It is a mountain the top of which is located in a national park. All around this mountain top are tea fields. Two things happened that will stick in my mind.
First, as we were driving out there, we were stuck in traffic per usual, and two guys walked up to the car, and one held the other’s hand out. I realized the second guy was blind, and the first guy was helping him beg in the traffic. Usually the blind guy would have captured my attention. Instead, it was his helper. He had that look in his eyes of sheer sadness and hopelessness. Usually there is an attitude beggars take on to get more money. This guy just felt genuinely depressed and like his life was going nowhere. In the moment I could only pray for him.
The second moment was when we were trekking. We got lost on the mountain. For three hours. Not the worse thing in the world because we had a phone with GPS, so we knew where we were. We just couldn’t figure out how to get down off the mountain. We had all been praying silently for about two hours, but after climbing gradually down, and then climbing back up to the top of ridge, we just had absolutely no idea which direction to go.
We stopped and prayed out loud as a group, then began going along a trail. Steven was leading, and I took up the rear because we both had headlamps, and may need to use them as it got dark. Not two minutes of walking and we found an already blazed path that lead down the mountain. After searching for two hours for a way down, making our own trail, in two minutes God found us an already-made path.
It was a pretty great day in all! We learned God’s power to get us out of situations in which we put ourselves.
