It made me a little uneasy when the first words I hear stepping off the bus are, “There ARE scorpions and poisonous snakes and spiders. So be careful!”
OH GREAT!
Last weekend, we made a trip to the bush with our contact Angie and her crew. We visited the village of Xocolani with two goals:
- Paint the local clinic
- Visit the families of two boys that stay at Beacon of Hope
Check and check!

My very favorite part of our trip was in fact visiting the families of Felix and Armando.
Just a little background…the boys of Beacon of Hope were chosen by the Chefe of the village (basically a mayor), because of the potential they have to succeed in school. They moved to Maputo, where they get the chance to concentrate on school, gain life skills and most importantly learn what it means to follow Christ.
So 5 months ago (around the time I left for the Race), Felix and Armando moved away from their families. This past weekend was the first time they had seen their families since January.

Alfrado and I walking through Xocolani. One of the awesome boys of BOH.
Fortunately, the only run in I had with creepy, crawly things was this guy…

(who is allegedly harmless).
However, I did have one of the boys BUG BOMB him until he shriveled up on the ground.
I rested easier that evening!
