When you are abroad, there are little things (sometimes big things) that remind you I AM NOT HOME

There are moments when you think…this is just pure ridiculous (and I love it)

In honor of those moments, I've compiled a TOP 10 list for my Dominican stay. Here it goes:

TOP 10 THINGS IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC REMINDING ME I'M NO LONGER IN AMERICA

10. You hike a mountain just to eat your Sunday lunch by the river

9. You eat the best tacos you’ve ever had for a $1 and it’s not off of a value menu

8. Coffee is no longer served in tall, grande or venti

7. A man offers to buy your teammate (you highly consider it in order to fully fund the rest of your trip)

6. Living in a city does NOT guarantee a rooster won’t wake you up at 5 am

5. Families of 5 can “comfortably` travel on a tiny, tiny motorcyle and no traffic laws are broken

4. There is literally a GANG of dogs on your street…apparently no one has heard of animal control

3. You witness the slaughtering of a pig while you are in the midst of discipiling someone…no one else seems to notice

2. When your truck breaks while going to the mountains, it is perfectly acceptable to hitch hike back into the city rolling 12 deep in the bed of a stranger’s truck

1. You give a lady and her TIED UP PIG a ride into town

Not going to lie! Riding about 45 minutes in the back of the truck with a squirming pig and woman that does not speak any english…Interesting. Memorable!

I´m going to miss this place and all its quirks! We have had such a blessed month with a great house, amazing contacts and beautiful new friends. All these interesting experiences have made it much more rich!

We leave for Haiti tomorrow morning around 4 am. Exciting! Please pray for safe travels and safety while in the country!
