A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.
Diane Mariechild
I am a woman. I am a child of God. I am powerful.
As Christian women, we are too often told we are the “fairer” of the 2 sexes, or that our job is in the home. I’m sorry, ever heard of Esther? Or Ruth? Or Mary? Or what about Rahab? These women were warriors in the Kingdom of Heaven. So what makes Christian culture today think anything has changed?
Um. It hasn’t.
I am slowly but surely learning what all it means to be a true woman of God. How I am called to love the way God loves. To give life in all ways, through encouraging words, thoughtful actions, and genuine care of those God has placed in my life. How, as a woman, I represent God’s beauty and His grace.
But there is strength and power in God’s beauty and grace. That’s the often forgotten part.
Instead, women in churches today are taught to be gentle mice waiting on their husbands to rescue them, having Proverbs 31 quoted to them at every chance. Women are meant to be so much more than the Proverbs 31 woman! Yes, we should have a gentle and quiet spirit but we also are made for ferocity and loyalty and intelligence and courage. God doesn’t make anyone for less than extroadinary. That is true regardless of gender.
In Kenya, I walked with 3 women to a well a mile away and carried gallons of water back to their family. In Thailand, I talked to women who were willing to do anything to make sure their children ate. I’ve met women who gave up their lives to take care of mothers and sick family members. Over the past eight months or so, I have fought alongside some incredible sisters, watching them grow into their roles as Kingdom bringers.
