I can feel you near me
as a warm breath on my back,
a suggestion of fresh air on my cheek,
a strong hand holding my heart.

It has been there for sometime
– your unspoken presence –
but it has been growing,
morphing into something closer to me
something less alien
but all the more thrilling.

You are solitude;
a soft hush of reflection
that mingles with the atmosphere
until my lungs absorb
your calm affection
and my blood tingles with your silent intensity.

The wind carries your colors
and sound holds your shape;
you cover me in my sleep,
your soft touch on my head

But more and more I notice
you are my thoughts
your essence lingers there
and mixes with my own,
being something
that has softly become essential,
integral,
the thing that I fear if I am without
I will be lost, marooned,
on an upward slope with
no notion of direction.

You keep my soles embedded in this earth.
You keep me here with you
by holding my heart in your hands.
