In honor of my last week of actual ministry, I've compiled a few lists… Here are my World Race Top Fives

Books I've read: (All highly recommended)

Funny foods:
1. Cow stomach
2. Ice cream on a bun

5. Really good Mexican food… in Cambodia

Things I'll Miss:
1. Team time
2. Strong community
3. Going to sleep and waking up with the sun
4. Foreign hospitality and openness
5. Cheap food (well, cheap everything)

Things I won't miss:
1. Handwashing all my clothes
2. Cold showers
3. Cockroaches, mosquitos, and the like.
4. Being stared at all the time
5. Moving every few weeks

Priorities upon arriving home:
1. Squeeze my nephew, Peter
2. Get rid of half my clothes
3. Cocktail hour with mom
4. Use a dishwasher
5. Eat a crab & avocado sandwich

Things I'm SO happy I brought with me:
1. Long spoon
2. Full size pillow
3. Dream journal
4. solid shampoo
5. beanie

World Observations and Lessons:
1. There is NO such thing as common sense
2. There are so many beautiful people and sadly most of them only see themselves as the same skin/hair color as everyone else in their country.
3. Knowing/understanding someone's culture doesn't always make their behavior less aggravating
4. No one has rhythm except Swazis
5. Women work SO hard.

 

Unique Race experiences:
1. I didn't use a real squatty potty until month 9.
2. My dad came to visit me on my birthday 🙂
3. I only had one month that I'd consider to be a "rice month"
4. I'm walking away from the Race with only 1 scar
5. My team got professional photos taken of us.
