Earlier this week three young orphan girls stopped by for a visit. They asked if they could spend some time with us explaining that they felt very lonely and were in need of prayer and encouragement. Two of the girls are sisters ages 11 and 12 who lost both their parents 6 years ago to AIDS. The girls have no money and are being raised by their brother who is just a few years older than them. We had a lot of fun dancing and playing games with them to break the ice before sitting down for some girl talk. Through our translator, we spoke to the girls of how deeply God loves them as a Father, how He desires good things for their lives, and how they can trust Him and rest secure in the hope that He offers. We then spent time praying for each of these precious girls. It was such an honor to have them bow down in front of us (a cultural sign of respect) as we prayed healing and protection over their young lives.

We asked the girls what makes them happy and it broke my heart to hear one respond by saying she was happiest the day her mom bought her new shoes. This was long ago and she now walks around barefoot.

Before the girls left, my team and I had the opportunity to give them some of our possessions. We loaded the table with clothing, toiletries, school supplies, and even a pair of sandals for the girl longing for shoes. We let them pick out their favorites for a mini photo shoot and then gave them each a pile of clothes to take home with them. I loved watching their eyes light up with excitement as they surveyed their new belongings.
