The last three weeks have been intense! We spent most of our time at a Care Point called “Field of Dreams”. This Care Point is the most needy of all the ones I’ve seen so far. There is a building of sorts made of concrete and wire fencing- not very sturdy and really not much of a shelter. This is where the kids get a little bit of schooling from the go-go (the grandmother looking after the 50+ kids that come for a few hours). This is also where a meal is prepared for the children. The meal usually consists of maize (corn meal) or porridge. The kids walk there and home everyday, some carrying their sisters or brothers on their backs.

Many of the children have no shoes, some have one or they are very holey. They wear very dirty, warn clothes and most under two have no underwear or pants on. The Care Point building sits in a dirt field so you get dirty very quickly. Elizabeth (the go-go) at Field of Dreams meets with the kids in the morning. Together all the children say a prayer (it is so precious to watch). They sing songs and get taught for a little while. Then they proceed outside to wash their hands in a bucket that Elizabeth has set out. By the third child the water is brown. Afterwards they are given a bowl of hot food and sit on the concrete floor to eat with their hands.

This is pretty much a daily occurrence for the children who are most often orphaned by one or both parents. Fortunately this isn’t where the story ends. My friends/mentors, Lisa and Gary Black are working on a project called G-42 (which stands for the 42nd generation). The goal is to create a self-sustaining village for orphans to live in where all of their needs will be met. Many of these kids have been physically/sexually abused and this will become their safe haven.
Please pray for the Blacks as they undertake this enormous project. And pray for the children-They are precious and innocent and they really need are love.
