OBSERVERS:
I bond with my Real- (Real minus) team with episodes of Fringe. It is a science fiction-mystery-law show. Fringe is a division of the FBI charged with investigating the strange and unexplainable events that happen each episode. There are two universes, each very similar in respect to appearance and function; however the people in the two universes make different choices and thus develop different lives. Recently we’ve discovered there are also different time-lines in each universe. People, though in the same universe, mature and evolve uniquely, thus having a character all their own. It’s complicated.

Recently we’ve learned something new about a group of minor characters called Observers. They are white bald men or varying ages, always dressed in black suit, tie and a bowler hat. Fringe Division has record of these men showing up, throughout history, at critical, world changing moments. We learned that they are not some anomaly in genetics, but rather future scientist that have discovered how to exist out-side of time. They spend their “lives” visiting significant moments in time trying to discover the secrets of the universe.
September is our favorite observer. He hasn’t just observed, he interferes if necessary. It makes me think…If I had the capability, would I want to be an observer? What time in history would I visit first? What are my top 10, would any of them be in the future? Could I handle the policy of inaction? In what circumstances, if any, would I break the rules and act?

This year has given me a lot of experience in simply observing. I am an actor by nature: I like to be doing, all the time. But, on the World Race there are times when action is unnecessary, unwanted, or unrealistic. These have been the most challenging times for me. However, I am learning to let go of the reigns, relinquish control and go with the flow. I wouldn’t say its my favorite posture, but I’m learning to appreciate being “outside” the timeline and letting God direct me to crucial life events.
Hebrews 13:20-21
“Now may the God of peace … the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
