You know the saying, “it’s a small world?”. It is so true. I think I’ve said it time and time again, but seriously, the world seems to get smaller and smaller the more I travel and meet people.
For example, today I got to visit Central Cape Town. I really felt like I got to see the city; and it’s a beautiful city. We visited Faulk bay, then Fish Hook beach-a famous shark beach, then to Victoria Waterfront.
What a beautiful shopping center, boardwalk and harbor. We just so happened to be in the area at the same time as the largest ship in the world! The mall was high class and sophisticated. I went to the South African equivalent of Starbucks, Mug and Bean. They were packed….I mean people were standing outside waiting to be seated at this very popular coffee shop. With a little self control I was able to limit myself to just a latte, but I splurged for the hazelnut :), but not the giant muffins or amazing looking cakes.

After the quick visit to the waterfront and listening to a street band perform we were carted away to another mall, the Canal Walk shopping center. It was huge. I felt like I was driving into Atlantis, not a mall, and certainly not one in Africa! The mall was crowded, full of stores and people. Not only was it Saturday, it was game day. The Cape Town Stormers were playing the Rebels and it was all over the big screens in the food court. ….yeah, big screens in the food court- why dont we have that at the Galleria? Anyway, I got to walk around and simply observe the people, the game, the stores and their trends. It was a nice time to myself to do what I love most-independent exploration.

After I walked the mall, upper and lower levels and even stopping in a few shops, our team squeezed in the car to head home. To our surprise we were taking the scenic route home. I was thrilled. This drive provided amazing views of the city that we wouldn’t have otherwise been able to see. Cape twin is a big town. Mountains surround the area on three sides. The fourth side is a beautiful cape full of boats: personal fishing boats, yachts, and industrial cargo ships. The combination of the mountains, the water and the valley full of homes is in a perfect mix. It’s no wonder Cape Town in one of the Top 10 most beautiful cities in the world! The view was so great, I thought it was the piece de resistance. Not so!

As we followed the curving road up the mountain and past Lion’s Den it actually got better. In the middle of the ocean was a cloud barely hiding the sun. The angelic rays shone gold on the oceans waves and could only symbolize the warmth and magnificence of the creator. It was amazing. To further take in the scene we stopped at an overlook called Signal Hill. On one side of the parking lot you could see central Cape Town, full of homes, buildings, the beach, and mountains. On the other side, the ocean streatching til the horizon.
