Neighborhoods are so unique because they are developed, energized and formed by those that live there.  In the San Juan neighborhood where we are living, there are nice houses, gated garages, and two story stucco homes.  We are greatly blessed this month by the Lord's provision.  Our World Race Residence is a three bedroom, three balcony, two shower, huge home with an amazing back patio.  It is the perfect place for 21 new racers to begin their journey.  I am so grateful for the community in our house.  The additional two teams helps to enhance our ability to ease into the small six person teams we will travel with throughout the year.  Our house is basically our sleeping and eating station while we minister and explore this great nation of the Dominican Republic.

The kids on the street follow us everywhere.  I’m not sure if they are schooled or not yet school age, but there are children in the neighborhood at all hours.  They are so excited to see and talk to the “americanos.” It is endearing how their faces light up when we return an “Hola.” They are even more excited when we come out side the gate and play with them in the street.  Today I was trying to take a personal moment outside on a lawn chair, soaking up the Dominican sun, when our little boy and his two sisters showed up.  Children easily find ways to overcome the language barrier.  For example, this morning they simply reached for the gate lock and took the keys and motioned to come.  As I walked into the street they smiled and cheered!  It is so different from kids who demand a playmate and are simply content when they get what they want.  These children were joyful   They were grateful for the attention, especially from the Americans!

Speaking of joy, the kids are fascinated with cameras.  The moment you pull out a camera they grab for it, then say “photo, photo,” and giggle like crazy when you show them the image on the digital cameras! It is something extraordinary to think about being able to capture an illustration of yourself in box. Here are some images I took…and some they took, ever so proudly!
