Lots of news to share. First, tomorrow we are doing laundry, hitting up Walmart then heading to a hotel near the AIRPORT. Um, we leave for Thailand at7am Saturday morning. It’s here.Weird. Training camp has been awesome. I will post some of the things I have been processing. But… you will have to stay tuned.
Back to business: Our team
lost the beloved Traci Van Awesomepants. She switched to a different team to help even out numbers. We miss her, and I may record her laugh to play on repeat when we are one different sites. The grief will pass in time.
Next, we have a
team name. We are Team LESS.It came from a team builder where we had to come up with an acronym representing our values. It stands for Love Encouragement Serve and Simplicity. But, the more we thought about it, the more we like it. For instance in John 3:30 it says, “He must become greater; I must become less.” What a goal for the year… less of ourselves, more of God. Less of our desires, more serving others. Living with Less.Less pride, more genuine love. I can’t wait.
Finally, we have a
ministry site. We’re heading to Kanchanaburi, a small village two hours west of Bangkok, near the Burmese border. It’s going to be rustic… and gorgeous. We may or may not have internet there, no news is good news!Arun and his wife Pang started a Youth With A Mission ministry site there in 2003. Here is the decription of the ministry opportunities once our team arrives:
“You will have an opportunity to teach English at a local school, as well as engage in open air evangelism at the local market and various other venues. There is also the opportunity to do prayer walking in and around the town, visit with villagers, and even encourage the local Christians. Your team will also be asked to help out every Sunday morning by sharing testimonies, helping to lead worship, performing dances or dramas and even preaching the morning sermon.”
I have saved thebest news for last. Also from our site description:
“Arun and Paeng also have a plethora of goats that they own and your team will be asked to help with the daily feeding, cleaning and upkeep! “
Yes, we are going to a goat farm for the month! And yes my totally made up scenario of eating the family goat from my meat log is becoming very real.
Here is a site for their ministry so you can read more:

Please keep us in prayer as we head out… it’s a 22 hour flight with stops in San Francisco and Tokyo. I can’t believe it’s here! I am just so blessed already by my team and what God has been doing to prepare us.
