On Valentines Day our small team (Zeo) of six set sail on a ferry for the island of Ometepe, located on Lake Nicaragua.
Immediately upon arrival the kindest lady who has a wonderful heart for children and a strong love for the Lord greeted us.
Helen is the head of the Cicrin Orphanage here on the island where we are living and working.
She has lived here with the children running everything for seventeen years.
When we arrived at the orphanage we were immediately greeted by two little boys, eager to see the new faces and to help us carry our bags.
Immediately my attention was drawn to a little girl off in the distance sweeping leaves out of the dirt.
I went to her and began to try to make friends.
We connected by sweeping together and teaching each other words in our own language.
Her name is Karina, and she is five, the youngest of all the children here.
There are twenty-seven children here, and they are all very special and dear to our hearts.
It is amazing how much Spanish you can learn from a child.
I try to spend as much time as I can with Karina because she is so patient with my extremely broken Spanish, and she loves to try to figure out what I am trying to say and correct me.
Although we have only been here a few days, I know this place and these children will hold a place in my heart forever.
