So much to catch you up on friends! Sorry I am so delayed in my update, but it has been quite a busy week. While I would love to fill you in on each and every moment since I landed in the Philippines, I think I will have to stick to a brief overview and a few highlights:
-Landed in Manila on my birthday
-Rode in a jeepney
-Swam in a waterfall
-Ate a birthday cake
-Fed children in a slum
-Had a massage
-Made a video with my team
…And now, I am here at Friendly’s Guesthouse…the hostel I will be staying in for the next 3 weeks. It has a great view of the city, and feels more like a hotel. We have tv, running water, and a fun living area that we can all hang out in. We are going to be working with an organization called PCF. Philippine Christian Foundation. Our contacts, Joanna and Ron, are a sweet couple that have been working with children and families at a dump site for the last 3 years. They have about 300 children that come every Sunday that they feed and minister to. We attended church there yesterday and it was devastating to see the poverty that this community is living in. Words can’t even express the emotions that came over me as I took in my surroundings and realized that this is their life, their reality, their idea of home.
There are 14 of us (2 teams) sharing a room. Please pray for us as we minister to the people here and love on them. We are leaving to go have dinner with our contacts tonight and hear more details about exactly what we will be doing while here. I sure miss you all and will try to keep you updated as much as I can.
