Hi friends, I think it is
completely appropriate and only fitting that I call you all friends seeing how
we will be spending the next year of our lives together. Well, let me introduce
myself. My name is Sarah Ashley Barkie and I am 21 years old. I live in a very
small town in the northwest corner of
North
Dakota- the town is called
Williston. I don’t like living here personally; I am a big-city girl at heart
and this town is far too small for me. I am in my last semester of college here
and my family is here so that is the reason why I am still here. I will be
graduating in May with an associates of arts and I plan to one day pursue a
degree in Fashion and live and work on the West Coast. Right now I am working as
a server at Applebee’s. I have been doing this job for about 2 years and really
love it.
This will be
my second mission trip overseas and I am very much looking forward to it! It is
quite strange how I always seem to get into these mission trips. It is usually
by some bizarre e-mail that goes directly to my junk mail but for some reason,
no matter what I did I kept receiving e-mails from AIM. I than one day decided
to just look at it, and although it sounded so interesting, I was still
indecisive. I than later just felt the pull to fill out the “quick-app” I did
and after that it was all history! I really didn’t know what I wanted to do and
where exactly I wanted to go this next fall, although I had a clue I was just
having a really difficult time making decisions. I than prayed about it and
realized this is what I was being called to do, so I obeyed and am already
thinking this will be one of the best decisions of my
life.
My friends
sometimes wonder what makes me want to drop all of my plans, dreams, and goals
that I have for myself and just abandon it all to go to the unknown to preach
the gospel. I really don’t have an answer for them except I love the challenge
and being pushed…within reason of course. : ) I think that that is what
really defines a person, what adds character. I guess for an answer that I would
give them is that I love people-meeting them, working with them, helping them. I
just really love people, I love traveling to places other’s could only ever
dream of, I love love love My Jesus, and making a difference so it really only
makes sense to put it all together and head out into the unknown to preach the
gospel to the children of my Master! I want to make this world a better place
when I leave than it was when I came into it. That is my goal.
Okay, well I
think that is about it. I could give you some strange, but interesting facts to
help you better get to know me. I am VERY shy when I first meet people, which is
strange because by the end of this trip, shy and timid are 2 adjectives you
would think you would never use to describe me. Once in my comfort zone I can be
very sporadic and spontaneous. I love coffee- mocha’s especially! I really like
to spend time at my favorite coffee shop and read, do homework, knit (I LOVE
knitting) or just spend time with my friends. I enjoy music a lot! I love to
drive and listen to a great song/c.d. and just JAM! I like to attend bible
studies during the week and I like to work-out as well. My family is one of the
most important things in my life. I really have no idea where I would be without
each and every one of them. I also love children; they are one of the greatest
gifts of all! Well, that was just a few, quick fun things about me. I’m sure
we’ll have plenty of time to get to know one another even better!
I am very much
looking forward to meeting you all and getting to know you better. I will be
praying for us as we continue to get everything done needed for our trip. See
you in April!
