The light on the crosswalk was counting down to zero as a friend and I were about to cross. I stopped, knowing the light was just seconds away from turning green, while my friend joked about running across quickly to try and make it. Terrified at the thought of crossing the busy streets of Indianapolis with cars about to zoom by, I turned and said to my friend “There’s no way I’m crossing, I like my life.”

He turned to me (mostly kidding) and said, “Well you probably shouldn’t go into missions then.”

WOW.

“And he said to all, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?’” Luke 9:23-25

 DOUBLE WOW.

Don’t get this wrong, God gives us the very breath in our lungs and each day is a precious gift from Him, but how often do I value my life over the calling God has placed on me? How often do I forget that the narrow path following Christ is not always safe, comfortable, or easy? How often do I forget that laying down my life is not a suggestion from Jesus, but a commandment?

Just one month away from launching into my first country (Colombia!!!), I am praying that I would continue to learn what it means to lay my life down and follow Christ. I want to follow him into loving individuals, into serving communities, and into doing the uncomfortable, all so that He would receive all glory and that His name would be known.

I don’t believe that Jesus wants me to walk into literal crosswalks (I’m not that crazy), but I do believe He wants me to sprint into the crosswalks of life because that is where He calls us to follow Him!

FUNDRAISING UPDATE!!!

My “Race for Change” fundraiser is finished and together we raised $735.32!!! This was completely from collecting spare change! This means that I only have $2,315 left to fundraise! For those of you who have followed this journey from the beginning, this means that in just 4 short months the Lord has used all of you to raise $14,302! If you would like to help support me on this journey into laying down my life to serve others, I would love to answer any questions you have and invite you to partner with me! I have until April to be fully funded but I would like to meet that deadline as soon as possible!

I am also raising some extra personal funds throughout the year separate from my World Race fundraising account. If you are interested in giving in this way, I would love to chat about what this money would be used for and how it would help support me while on The World Race!

All Glory be to Christ,

Sara
