Honduras is wonderful!  The people are so nice and very patient with
those of us who do not speak Spanish.  I
have been pulling off a version of Spanglish that seems to be working
well!

We have started to fall into
a weekly routine, which involves shower schedules, chore schedules, cooking
schedules and team projects.  My team is
allowed to shower Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, with Fridays being a “free
for all” since we go to the mall that day.
Thursdays, Team Reckless Faith (my team) gets the extreme pleasure of
cleaning the bathroom that is used by about 60 people!  Woohoo, I’m excited!  Not gonna lie, it is quite gross…hint:  you can’t flush toilet paper in Central
America, sooooooo, you toss it into a little trash can beside the toilet.  Adds to the ambiance and the smell :0)

Onto our projects…

There are 8 different
projects for our 8 different teams.  We
are improving the property here at Zion’s Gate.
My team has a section of lawn that we are digging ginormous rocks out of
the ground, filling in about a billion holes with dirt and top soil and
creating a garden at the base of a tree.
It is A LOT of physical labor, it is SUPER DIRTY but it is looking so
nice already!  I can’t wait to see the
final product.  It’s really cool to have
3 weeks to work on something instead of trying to cram it into a week like
previous trips.  That is what we do
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, all the while, playing and bonding with the
kids!  This all results in majorly dirty
Sara.  My shorts that I wore for the past
4 days are a different color (dirt colored) and my legs were covered so bad
with dirt that when I took my socks and shoes off, it looked like I still had
socks on!  Legs were black, feet were
white!  LOL  I will be dirty for this whole month!

The other ministries we are
involved in:  IHNFA- we will be hanging
out with, pampering, playing with and exercising with girls who are in a type
of juvenile detention center.  Today we
are taking nail polish and hair stuff to do nails and braids.  Friday we will “take it to the streets.”  This involves going to a busy intersection
and waving signs, singing, dancing and handing out candy with verses!  Then we get to chill at the mall for a bit
where I will have access to internet, coffee and air conditioning (but it’s
actually not real hot here).  Saturdays
we will be headed into a dangerous part of the city to initiate some pick up
soccer games with potential gang members to show Christ’s love through actions.  We also have a chance to be involved in a church
service where we do a skit that portrays the struggles against temptations and
the redeeming love of Jesus.  Sunday is
our free day, then church at 5ish.  Well
in Honduran time, that could be 6 or 6:30ish.

Despite the constant
dirt…CONSTANT…this is an easy and blessed month.  We are able to do so much in our time here
and we are really enjoying everything!
