With inspiration from the508, a young adult group that meets on Friday nights in my area that loves this phrase, and a lot of patience and help from the company Fund the Nations, the t-shirt I’m bringing to you features a simplification of the two greatest commandments:
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Matthew 22:36-40
It’s simple: God calls us to love Him above anything else. And to love our neighbor. “Who is our neighbor?” Everyone! The people we come in contact with on a daily basis and the people on the other side of the world who we may not know their names. No conditions, no exceptions. I think we tend to overcomplicate God’s command.
My mission in life is to love. That’s basically all God asks us to do. It boils down to love.
Trust me, I am NOT perfect at this. I struggle to love my parents, my friends, random people that talk to me when I’m in a bad mood. But I commit to try. And when I know my words or actions do not honor God, I recommit myself to be more like Christ a little more the next time. It’s a long and slow process. (Philippians 1:6 – “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”) He has began a good work in me, and you if you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, and His work in us will not be complete until Jesus returns!
So, if you believe in this simple yet sometimes difficult mission too, then wear it loud and proud as you support me on the World Race!
