Matthew 7:7 tells us to ‘ask, and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you.’
Lately, I’ve been asking for support. Lots of it. And through my seeking, I’m happy to report that God has opened doors for me to receive it! For me, the World Race began back in October of 2009 when I found out I was accepted to the program. Having experience with missions, fundraising was on my mind before I even filled out my application. And I’m finding, the best part of this pre-Race journey is finding outlets I normally would not have thought of to share the Word and how God is using me, and then diving into them to cultivate awareness for the Race, and how people can be involved with this vision.
This is a photo from a benefit fashion show I organized that took place last weekend. It was an unconventional method, but I was given the opportunity to promote the Race and God’s vision of our purpose to a crowd of people who came for the festivities, and otherwise probably would not have known (or cared much for that matter) about the World Race.
Praise God – $2,000 was raised that evening alone!
I am now just under $7,000 from not only having my journey paid in full, but also having all the extra costs (immunizations, gear, international health insurance, etc.) covered! A special thank you to Zhanras, Rochelle’s, Surf Station, Old City Life, Kingfish Grill, Cafe Atlantico, Gypsy Cab Co., Tasting Room, Raintree and of course – those who came out to support the cause!
I am less than a month away from training camp for the Race, and have several $1,000’s more to raise – but I am keeping my eyes fixed ahead with a mindset to continue to ‘ask, seek, and knock’.
Here is a link to a local magazine that I modeled for the same month as the fundraiser – they gave a great shout out for the Race! (scroll down to April)
